The minimum and maximum salaries for this job role are below:
Minimum Salary - 114,000.00
Maximum Salary - 150,000.00
The Role:
Underwrites risks in accordance with the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority to maintain and develop a profitable account for Aspen. Whilst the role has limited client facing activity; it will be expected to contribute to the development of the portfolio in evaluating business opportunities, risks and exposures, pricing structures, rates, terms and conditions.

Key Accountabilities:
- Contributes to, monitors and advises on the plan developments and changes in order to ensure relevancy, compliance and optimal delivery
- Assists in the preparation and implementation of the operational team plans to ensure these are in line with wider business strategy and reflect key priorities.
- Determines own work priorities and activities in line with agreed plans to ensure the achievement of the function’s objectives
- Applies specific expertise to manage processes and workflow within the team, and is responsible for ensuring accuracy, efficiency, good practice and adherence to prescribed standards
- As a technical expert, is responsible for executing higher value/more complex transactions (making decisions within authority limits) to ensure that they are appropriately completed and that related records and systems are properly maintained
- Interprets, and helps to cascade organisation goals and regulatory/legislative requirements; and is responsible for monitoring functional activity, and application of Policy and Procedures, to ensure that compliance, effectiveness and risk management is optimised
- As a technical expert and designated point contact for others within the function, is proactive in providing advice and guidance to colleagues, making appropriate decisions and promoting improved understanding of functional needs and standards
- Develops strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that service delivery meets customer/colleague expectations
- Networks with relevant colleagues across the organisation to share best practice and to identify optimal service delivery options within the function
- Builds upon broad awareness of their market context, industry best practice and headline legislation related to their specific discipline, by engaging with external peers, to enhance personal contribution to functional performance
- Actively participate in relevant internal and external meetings as required to develop and demonstrate knowledge of Aspen and its processes.
- As a technical expert will represent the function by providing support and technical input to project teams and other areas of Aspen to ensure solutions take account of functional needs
- As a technical expert, underwrites (higher value/more complex) insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and the delegated underwriting authority to meet business objectives.
- Negotiating rates/ terms and conditions for existing and new business.
- Ensuring compliance in the production and issue of contract certainty documentation.
- Supporting credit control in payment collection.
- Supports the senior underwriting team with the review and analysis of the portfolio/functional performance to identify and influence progress towards business objectives
- Supports the senior underwriting team in the production of management information reports, to enable effective monitoring of underwriting activity.
- Acts as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise.
- Understands and contributes to management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence
- Maintains expertise and team knowledge through identifying and suggesting appropriate learning and development activities.
- Manages a team of junior practitioners within the function / department or specialism to ensure that people, resources and processes are aligned with business needs and fit for purpose
- Manage, resource, motivate, develop and focus the team to ensure the required standards of performance and support the continuing personal and professional development of all team members
- Assists more senior management within the function in appointing, performance managing and rewarding the team to effectively manage resources within the function
- Establish clear accountabilities and authority levels for direct reports and build a strong culture of accountability and performance in order to ensure delivery of goals
Skills & Experience:
- 3-5+ years in environmental and/or commercial casualty lines underwriting experience preferred
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partner
- Excellent sales and marketing skills
- Familiarity with site assessments, Phase I/II ESAs
- Track record of collaborating with brokers, clients, and technical experts
- Ability to travel 20% of the time for broker visits throughout the region
- Knowledge of Environmental risk assessment
- Knowledge of Insurance principles and policy structures
- Knowledge of Regulatory frameworks (EPA, state/local laws
- Knowledge of Environmental science basics (contaminants, remediation, etc.)
