Make your mark in Underwriting
AIG Underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, and Multinational Clients. We are reimagining how we help customers to manage risk, transforming our operating model and reshaping our role responsibilities and career pathways. The goal is to unlock the full potential in each colleague – empowering our people to grow as insurance professionals and add more value to our customers and AIG.
How you will create an impact
AIG is seeking a meticulous and analytically driven individual to join its underwriting team. In this role you will gradually learn to dissect complex transactions to understand credit risk and provide non-payment credit insurance solutions to Banks and Financial Institutions.
- The role is to support the growth of AIG’s Structured Credit, Trade Finance and Political Risk line of business which includes underwriting new credit risk transactions across the Asia-Pacific region.
- Assist senior underwriters to conduct detail scrutiny of the new business submissions within AIG’s underwriting framework and risk appetite with an aim to grow the business profitably.
- Support the management of a diversified portfolio of credit risk exposures to ensure compliance with internal policies, maintain transaction pipeline and ensure high quality MIS reports.
- Own the pre & post policy execution administration work such as NDA execution, sanctions screening procedures and premium management. Perform any other ad-hoc requests at the directive of senior underwriters.
- Gradually assume responsibility to independently underwrite transactions with minimal supervision:
- Evaluate transaction structures, review facility documentation and perform in-depth credit analysis of Corporates, Financial Institutions, and Sovereign obligors to recommend exposure limits. Assess country risk, macroeconomic trends, and geopolitical developments and evaluate their impact on transactions as well as existing portfolio.
- Liaise with credit approvers and Global Head of Business to discuss potential transactions, understand concerns and provide effective mitigations.
- Negotiate policy wordings with brokers and clients while maintaining a balance between risk and revenue generation.
- Develop and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, brokers and other stakeholders.
- Participate in Broker / Client meetings as often as possible to build market presence and provide guidance on AIG’s appetite.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in finance or accounting.
- Fresh graduates or recent graduates with up to 2 years of working experience.
- Basic knowledge in financial/credit analysis and interpretation of financial statements is preferred.

- Good communication, interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, analytical and multitasking skills.
- Independent, able to multi-task and possess initiative to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Outgoing person who is a strong team player with results driven focus and customer centric mindset.
