A leadership opportunity delivering the Lloyd’s Commercial Strategy across the Americas region (i.e. US, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean), establishing, enhancing and executing on the support Lloyd’s provides to our stakeholders across the region with a focus on profitable, sustainable growth.
With the support of the President, Americas and guided by both the Lloyd’s Commercial Strategy and the US Stakeholder E&S Engagement Plan, you will be a key contributor to the growth and relevance of Lloyd’s in the Americas region, and the US E&S and reinsurance sectors in particular. You will provide inclusive and inspirational leadership to a team of Market Development officers, ensuring the attraction, progression and retention of a high performing, diverse and effective team.
Key deliverables:
Design and implement strategic market development initiatives across the Americas region
Develop and maintain key Managing Agent relationships at Group and/or service company level; this includes Member and prospective capital relationships
Champion Lloyd’s Commercial strategies, including Innovation, Multinational, New Entrants, Academy/Education, Front of House and Lloyd’s as the preeminent underwriting platform globally
Manage a team of Market Development officers, supporting their career development
Drive continuous improvement in the effectiveness of our market development activities with key stakeholders including: the local brokerage communities (both wholesale and retail); Lloyd’s brokers; coverholders; managing agents; service companies; non-Lloyd’s carriers; industry trade organizations; academic institutions and other stakeholders
Support Lloyd’s syndicate business planning process & new entrant triage where appropriate and contribute to the market’s sustainable profitable growth
Aggregate and distribute intelligence on the Americas (US, Canada and Latin America) market to internal and external stakeholders in London and assume the leadership role in the delivery of the US E&S Stakeholder engagement plan
Engage with trade associations and media and academic organizations to convey the significance of Lloyd’s within the US economy and to develop strategies to expand and enhance Lloyd’s presence in the US
Actively support Lloyd’s culture in all internal and external engagements
Skills:
Proven leadership skills with ability to identify and develop talented team members (both direct and indirect reports)
Ability to develop internal and external business relationships, demonstrating high professional standards together with negotiation and influencing skills
Quickly identify opportunities for enhancing successful outcomes and take responsibility for developing and implementing strategies and tactical plans; including capital attraction
Portfolio management and/or underwriting experience
Team player, collaborating with others is second nature
Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Sense of urgency
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple assignments and deadlines
Knowledge:
Leadership experience in the US P&C and Specialty insurance industry
Knowledge of the Lloyd’s market, including the services and products that Lloyd’s provides to the various markets comprising the Americas region
Existing relationships with Lloyd’s managing agents, Lloyd’s brokers, US retail & wholesale brokers, cedants, industry trade organizations and state surplus associations/stamping offices
Able to identify opportunities for business development and process improvement
Ability to operate at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders, including facilitating and influencing mutually beneficial outcomes
Awareness of legislative and regulatory issues impacting Lloyd’s
Experience:
Experience working within the Lloyd’s market gained at either an underwriting or broker business
Market-facing brokerage, (re)insurance underwriting or another industry role through which an understanding of distribution and risk transfer solutions has been gained
Portfolio management and/or underwriting experience
Managing teams and providing leadership across multiple geographies and ability to develop productive service and business relationships
Experience acting as an escalation point for issues and delivering difficult messages to stakeholders
